About two magpies
More Than a Bakery
Since 2013, our story has been rooted in the heart of East Anglia. It began with a simple passion: to create truly wonderful food from real ingredients, all served with a warm welcome. We opened our first bakery café in the coastal town of Southwold, and from that day forward, our love for this region and the craft of baking has only grown stronger.
Today, Two Magpies is a collection of ten bustling bakery cafés across Suffolk and Norfolk, a dedicated Bakeschool, and a team of over 180 passionate bakers, pastry chefs, and baristas. We’ve become a one-stop shop for our communities, a place where you can find everything from your daily sourdough loaf and morning pastry to a show-stopping celebration cake.
The Heart of the Bake: Our Walpole Bakery
Every morning, long before the sun rises, our central bakery in Walpole comes to life. Opened in 2024, this is where the magic happens. It’s here that our bakers combine time-honoured techniques with the best ingredients. Our signature sourdoughs are patiently developed through a long fermentation process and baked on stone-deck ovens for that perfect crust and open crumb. Our pastry team meticulously folds and turns layers of rich Lescure butter to create the delicate, flaky lamination in our croissants and cinnamon swirls.
From our famous sausage rolls to our seasonal panettones and small-batch patisserie, everything is crafted by hand with skill and care. It’s this dedication that you can taste in every single bite.
Sourced with Care, Baked with Pride
We believe that exceptional baking starts with exceptional ingredients. That’s why we work with a community of brilliant local suppliers who share our commitment to quality.
● Our fruit and vegetables come from Easters of Norwich.
● We use rich skyr-style yoghurt and Baron Bigod cheese from Fen Farm Dairy.
● The pork in our famous sausage rolls is sourced from Lane Farm in Brundish.
● Our flour comes from Marriages in Essex, and our eggs from Havensfield in Hoxne.
● You’ll find local flavour from Leigh’s Bees honey and Adnams Broadside in our bread pudding.
When the best ingredients are found further afield, we source them responsibly. This includes rich Callebaut Belgian chocolate for our patisserie and expertly roasted coffee from Allpress.
Our Growing Family, Rooted in Community
Our cafés are more than just a place to buy bread; they are hubs for the community. We are proud to be family-friendly, dog-friendly spaces where everyone feels welcome. Behind the scenes, we foster a culture of training and development for our team, ensuring the craft we love continues to thrive.
In 2024, we were delighted to welcome the award-winning Hilton Macarons into our family as a sibling brand. Their beautiful macarons are now available across our counters and online, adding another touch of artistry to our offering.
We are so proud of the journey so far and the community that has grown with us. Whether you’re stopping by for your morning coffee, learning a new skill at our Bakeschool, or ordering a beautiful celebration cake, we’re here for all of life’s delicious moments.
